zDuring the female plateau phase, the following changes occur if effective erotic stimuli are present:

z1. The wall of the outer one-third of the vagina becomes greatly engorged with blood so that the vaginal cavity is reduced from that in the excitement phase.

zAlso, the labia minora become more engorged with blood and thus become redder and larger. These changes in the outer third of the vagina and the labia minora are called the orgasmic platform because they indicate that orgasm is imminent.
